Used during the war for bomber noses and other enclosures on every type of Army and Navy plane, Plexiglas became known as "aviation's standard transparent plastic." Its conversion to peacetime uses - with horizons broadened by new technical developments, including a limitless range of colors - is shown in this film.
Ken Smith sez: The best part of this beautiful-looking industrial is in its final minutes, where we are shown a "dream suite of tomorrow" to see how Plexiglas ("the most glamorous plastic") will soon be used to "beautify" the average home. In this "wonderful tomorrow," we see that Plexiglas will be used in everything from doorknobs to furniture to the walls themselves, as it "sweeps away traditional design" in a weird architectural style that blends art deco with something out of The Jetsons. "Yes, in the home of tomorrow, there's Plexiglas everywhere!"

Looking ahead through Plexiglas brings a glimpse into a wonderful tomorrow. [red green wipes colors]
A tomorrow where this crystal clear plastic turns its amazing characteristics to beautifying the home to sweep away traditional styling in interior architecture. [cyan blue wipes colors]
Planned by the Rohm and Haas Company, pioneers and principal producers of acrylic plastics, to show architects, designers, and homeowners just how plexiglas can add to the beauty and comfort of the home, this home of tomorrow, this dream suite reveals new uses for plexiglas in walls, doors, and fixtures, glamorous effects in accessories and fittings all inviting and warm to the touch, amazingly light in weight, yet strong and shatter resistant. Truly a dream suite of tomorrow, suggesting new comfort and enjoyment for today. To enclose the shower a sheet of plexiglas is curved, engraved with an appropriate design, and lighted from one edge. The semicircular sliding door, also plexiglas, completes the enclosure. Plexiglas shelves treat a conventional idea with transparent beauty. [mirrors primping bathrooms interior design industrial design women models doors towels]
The medicine cabinet door provides extra shelf space with a plexiglas warning label for the poison shelf. A dressing table of built in efficiency and beauty, on one side the pedestal swings open to reveal plexiglas trays for cosmetics, hose and lingerie. [danger risk poisons bathrooms mirrors hairdos medicines fingers pointing doors underwear women plastics]
The trays are crystal clear, formed with rounded corners for easy cleaning. A stack of drawers makes up the other pedestal with plexiglas liners to prevent snagging of lingerie. [plastic underwear doors hands opening]
Radiant walls, brilliantly decorated in color, possible because plexiglas pipes light, provide soft, flattering illumination. The same lamps that gives lustrous beauty to the radiant walls furnish light needed at the mirror.
The lustrous and gem-like brilliance of plexiglas adds new interest to door handles, to a Lazy Susan hat tree and to shoe racks. [plastics hats accessories chapeaux fashions shoes footwear]
A graciously curved, transparent front wall of the bedroom, or slumber wing, lends an air of spaciousness to a room quite small. [women models sitting down plastics trompe l'oeil]
The sweeping transparency removes all feeling of confinement and air conditioning becomes as easy and inexpensive as the operation of the refrigerator. [jails incarceration prisons women models claustrophobia doors]
Unusual in plastic artistry is this mural, painted in light, in color. The three dimensional depth is produced by an assembly of engraved plexiglas sheets, edge-lighted to make a glow of restful beauty. Yes, in the home of tomorrow there is plexiglas everywhere: Plexiglas partitions, plexiglas furniture, even plexiglas hats on plexiglas racks. Plexiglas all around, for beauty, utility and long life. [plastics materials]
Here is comfortable and practical living built around the amazing properties of the most glamorous plastic of all, plexiglas. Here is great service in industry built around the versatility of this war-famed plastic, plexiglas. Here too is an exciting challenge to the imagination, and a vision of things to come when you are looking ahead through plexiglas. [The End. A Jam Handy Picture. end titles]

Subject: Plexiglass
The shower would appeal to naturists.
Subject: Not just for hockey players anymore!
Having gotten that out of the way, I wish I DID see part I, as this looks like one lulu of a movie. In just the we learn that you could have a plexiglass shower wall, trays, soap holders, towel holders, bedroom door, drawer handles, hat racks and so so so much more. This movie REALLY makes you chomp at the bit for more! This is a MUST SEE on this site!
Subject: Take my plexiglass... PLEASE
The Reynolds films show how well the aluminum industry responded, and this film shows some of the more lofty ambitions of the plastics industry.
Unlike the items in the Reynolds Aluminum films, few of these dream Plexiglas products were ever sold - and some are delightfully ridiculous!
